Research Experience
I have undertaken a number of attachments in academic departments involved in both basic science and clinical research. However, principal amongst these was a three year post as a clinical research fellow at the Dementia Research Centre at the Institute of Neurology, University College London. Whilst there, I undertook a longitudinal cohort study examining the natural history of subjective memory complaints in the absence of objective cognitive impairment. This group of subjects commonly present to memory clinics and provide a significant challenge to the clinician. This study has shown that, a subset of this group, do go on to develop cognitive decline and that this is associated with a number of neuropsychological
and neuroimaging markers.
Whilst at the Dementia Research Centre I undertook a weekly Specialist Cognitive Disorders Clinic providing excellent training in the diagnosis and management of dementia, cognitive disorders as well as significant exposure to movement disorders.
Management and Leadership Experience
Since 2017 I have been the Clinical Director for Neurosciences at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
Externally, I am a member of the steering group for the NHS London Memory assessment network and a member of the North Central London STP.
These experiences, as well as those outside of medicine, have helped me develop skills enabling me to work well within a team to identify needs and negotiate successful solutions.
